In short, yes doom 2 is fun but it did practically nothing new while actually taking a step back in level structure which is a pretty serious blow. Were it not for savestates, I likely would have stopped playing less than halfway through As a result, unlike doom 1, I didn't bother attempting to find all the secrets as near the end I really was just trying to get it done. Enemies feel like they were placed less for challenge and more to simply piss you off. This game also has plenty of cheap "oh you picked up an item? well here's 15 pinkies out of nowhere cause fuck you" syndrome. The sheer, overwhelming maelstrom of enemies is just too much as you will either die via excess gangbang or run through because you simply do not have enough ammo. The final episode however were just linear areas that were simply packed to the absolute brim with all kinds of demons and felt like they were just trying to end the game but pad it out a little by dumping far too many enemies on you. Episode one levels felt fairly meh all around while episode 2, many levels felt unique and fairly refreshing. Speaking of which the demon types added some nice variety as doom one mainly just felt like 45% gunmen/shotgun, 45% imps and 10% trace demons. A meatshot will more or less silence all but the most annoying demons. The super shotgun makes it's triumphant appearance and man is it a blast to use. Well.superior in some ways but to me, inferior all around. Revenant with homing fireballs that will follow you around the whole map unless their pathway is distracted by an obstacle and Pain elementals that spawn and infinite amount of Lost Souls unless killed.ฤก2h 21m Playeddifficulty played: Ultra violence Doom 2, the sequel to the beloved original. Archvile that can set you on fire and unless you take cover takes away a good chunk of health and can resurrect enemies. Negatives: Not that much of a negative but wow are the new enemies a pain in the ass. Again, similar to how the first Doom played it has a repetitive premise of having to find this keycard and that keycard to progress forward through the level although done better in Doom II than the previous instalment. Boss battle was also a lot better, adding more of a difficulty to defeating him compared to the previous game. Truly added much more expansive levels and areas with really fun level design such as "Tricks and Traps" and "Barrels o' fun" to take a break from the traditional level design. I also prefer the setting of it being set on Earth rather than fighting through closed off Mars bases. Also great WAD support from the community also adds to how influential and beloved this game was by the community. There's something that Doom II has that adds a charm in comparison to the previous game. New enemies to expand the roster of the different demons you get to fight against with having to proceed with extra caution with how you fight them as they're harder to fight than the regular enemies from the first Doom which are also present here. Addition of the Super Shotgun, one of the most iconic weapons in video game history and my favourite. Some of the levels are quite memorable such as Icon of Sin and Underhalls. 3h 22m Played Positives: Improved level design over the previous game, despite having played this game multiple times as well it left me trying to think what I needed to do next and retrace my steps.
